Coming into Chrome, I didn’t really know where the divide lay between Chrome and Chromium. Chromium is the open source project on which Chrome is based. But what secret sauce does Google put in Chrome that isn’t available in Chromium?

As it turns out, Chrome adds very little on top of Chromium project:

  • Adobe Flash
  • Closed-source codecs, e.g. AAC, H.264
  • Crash reporter

Basically, anything that is closed source or communicates with Google servers. See the docs page for a more detailed list.
